When using house design software, the number one problem people face designing their new home without the aid of professional help is understanding how certain designs features will affect the cost of the project. Or even the overall size of the home and what will fit inside their budget.
A good way to help combat this problem is to visit display/show homes taking notice of the design aspects along with the size of the home in relation to the price. This should give you an idea of what can be achieved in a certain price range.
Something that many people have trouble with is knowing what size a particular room should be especially when using house design software extending a room is as easy as a click of the mouse. Again display homes are a fantastic resource to get ideas from.
However most people can just start with the home they are currently living in. Walk around your current home with a note pad and measure your current rooms. Taking note of your furniture and how much room there is to accommodate for the furniture. Now that you have your room sizes measured and you find that some rooms are too small and maybe some are too large. Move the furniture in a position that would be comfortable or to your liking and add the extra space that is needed to your room measurements.
Something that people do have trouble with is when you are working on your house design software and you have most of the plan perfect on one side of the house, although the opposite side of the house the rooms are too big or small and you don’t really know what to do with the space to fix it.
This is a problem that I see all too often. To be honest there is no easy fix except to rearrange your design until it all works. Walk in linen cupboards and storage areas are a practical way to use up space that maybe unavoidable without destroying the overall design of the home.
The kitchen is another place that people seem to go overboard. Don’t get me wrong I love a large kitchen but all too often I see clients come in with their plan and the kitchen just doesn’t work. Think about how the space will be like to work in. You are the one who is ultimately going to use the kitchen so grab your tape measure and map it out in full size. Make sure the layout will suite your needs.
